Kendal wine bar launches its new brew
2:20pm Tuesday 27th December 2011
KENDAL is producing its own beer for the first time in 35 years after the launch of a new micro-brewery.
Two jobs have been created with the opening of the The Brew House, at Burgundy’s Wine Bar, Lowther Street.
The venue’s first beer – a middle brown bitter – has been named Silver Tanner because of the brewery’s location, off Tanner’s Yard.
The beverage is based on recipes for the last beers brewed in Kendal by Whitwell and Mark, which closed in the 1970s.
Mike Pennington, the owner of Burgundy’s, said: “We’ve worked on our idea for about six years and it has turned out better than I had envisaged.
“You can sit in the bar drinking a pint and see where it’s made from your chair - and we’ve made a good pint too, even if I do say so myself.
“A lot of our customers have commented that they can’t believe its our first attempt.”
