James Cropper workers receive Burneside firm's 'Oscars'

Fourteen employees of Burneside papermakers Jame Cropper have been rewarded for outstanding service to the business over the past 12 months.

Chairman Mark Cropper was on hand to praise workers recognised at the third annual Pride awards ceremony – the firm’s version of The Oscars.

All nominations were submitted by work colleagues, with more than 400 being put forward since the scheme was launched in 2009.

Winners received £500 each and commendations were also presented in a number of categories.

Among the initiatives singled out were outstanding effort on writing and updating safety procedures, exemplary partnership with local schools in promoting science and technology, and high quality training.

Those honoured were: Safety Improvement, Chris May; Community: Mike Jeschke; Support for Colleagues: Tony Bellas and Kevin Allen; Innovation and Creativity: Alan McKnight; Customer Service: joint winners, Sherrie Brown, Stefan Pryor and Danny Little. Taking Pride: Marcus Deacon and Andrew Ferguson.
