Traffic accidents following icy conditions
9:27am Friday 27th January 2012
ICY road conditions led to a spate of traffic accidents and road closures early this morning.
A woman was taken to hospital following a crash on the southbound M6 between junction 35 and junction 36 Wharton interchange at 7.20am.
Two further incidents at the same place on the south bound carriageway led to a three lane road closure at around 7.30am.
There were no casualties in the later collisions and the motorway is now re-open.
Kirkstone Pass between Troutbeck and Hartsop has closed due to ice.
The A6 at Shap is passable but drivers are advised to take care due to ice following last night's snowfall.
