Kendal man's memorial to late wife snatched

A WIDOWER has appealed for help after a 20ft tall tree he planted for his late wife went missing.

Jeffrey Mayer, of Kendal, said he was devastated when he paid a visit to the memorial tree which he planted on Gooseholme 18 months ago for his late wife Edwina, who was known as Teddy, and it was no longer there.

Jeffrey hopes someone will be able to help him track it down.

He said: “It was there one day and then the next day it was gone. You can still see the spade marks where it was dug up. I did not put a plaque with it at the time because I was advised it could be vandalised.

“It is not unheard of for gardeners to take trees from public land, but this was something I planted for my wife on my own. I would just really like it back.”

It is thought that the tree could have been taken around Christmas.

Anyone with any information should contact Cumbria Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
