AN evening with darts supremo Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor in Ulverston sold out within six hours of tickets going on sale.

The former PDC world champion will grace the town’s Coronation Hall on Friday, joined by Dennis Priestley, with no fewer than 525 tickets being sold for the evening.

Organiser Glenn Higgins said: “It is great to bring people like Phil and the other big names to the area. Preparations have been going very well, but we have been lucky to get sponsors [Cumbria Karting and Mercedes Benz South Lakes] on board for the night.”

On the night, Taylor and Priestley will play five games of singles matches and a doubles match against members of the audience, before contesting a best of 13 leg match.

Earlier this week, England defeated Australia in the Darts World Cup Final in Hamburg, Germany, with Adrian Lewis joining Taylor at the oche to oust Simon Whitlock and Paul Nicholson.

Lewis, Whitlock and Nicholson will contest the Ashes of Darts at Lakes Leisure, Kendal, in March, with James Wade teaming up with Lewis, and Higgins believes the dramatic World Cup will boost attendance on the night.

He added: ”There was a bit of an incident between Lewis and Nicholson in Hamburg which should add to the occasion in Kendal, but everyone is friends away from the stage and it will be played in good spirits.”

Lakes Leisure have sold almost 600 of their 900 tickets for the Ashes of Darts on Friday, March 16, and anyone wishing to buy a ticket, priced at £20, can do so by calling 01539 729777.
