Taylor faces battle to be fit for Lancs Trophy final
2:30pm Thursday 16th February 2012
By PATRICK O’KANE KENDAL Town striker Alex Taylor will be out of action for three weeks after breaking a bone in his foot.
Boss Lee Ashcroft told The Westmorland Gazette the loss of in-form Taylor was a ‘massive blow’ to the club as they prepare for Saturday’s trip to Buxton.
He said Taylor had trained with the Town squad last week and seemed fine but that he went to hospital on Friday.
Ashcroft added: “It has been quite a week. Alex went over in a training session and I got a call on Friday morning to say he had gone to hospital and put in plaster.
“He will be in plaster for three weeks and it is a blow as he has played a big part in what we have been trying to do.
“We play well with him and he has been fantastic for us in the last six or seven games.
“We had just got everyone fit and well but thankfully we have others who can come in to the side.”
The loss of the former Burnley FC starlet, who has also led the attack for Lancaster City and Fleetwood Town, is a major blow for boss Ashcroft ahead of a crucial run of Evo-Stik League Premier Division games.
And the 25-year-old now faces a race to be fit in time for the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy final against Chorley, which takes place at the Reebok Stadium home of Bolton Wanderers on Monday, March 11.
Town’s match against Chasetown on Saturday was postponed due to snow lying on the pitch while the Doodson Cup quarter-final was subject to a pitch inspection on Wednesday morning before being postponed and has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 7.45pm.
